Financial Controller (H/F)

We are recruiting for the role of Financial Controller France. This is one of these scarce roles that will challenge you on many fronts. From technical accounting & financial controls topics, to broad and diverse business partnering, to managing large scale change… this job has it all.

The financial controller and his/her team manage the Stewardship agenda for the French business, which continues to be one of Unilever’s largest businesses.
You will act with objectivity as the conscience of the business, seeing the bigger picture & holding the mirror up, moving between major control & value-based topics, protecting & liberating value in the business.

The successful candidate will need strong experience in controlling, internal and external audits, stakeholder management at all levels and an ability to inspire the overall finance team.

You will also need ability to deal with our operating centres in Poland and with external parties.

The key responsibilities include:
•    Ensure timely, complete and accurate accounting and reporting, both for Group as well as local/statutory purposes. Continuously improve the quality of accounting and implement changes in accounting standards, policies & procedures.
•    Ensure compliance with the Global Financial Controls Framework and the Global Process Model. Understand root causes of issues and non compliance with controls and drive remediation through relevant business leaders.
•    Partner the business on accounting, reporting and controls matters, as well as on major business transformation initiatives.

You will not do all of this on your own. The team consists of 6 motivated and skilled professionals.

The role will report into the Head of Financial Controlling Europe, who is also based in Rotterdam.

You will be a key member of the France finance leadership. You will also be an active member of the Europe financial controllers team.

The successful candidate will need the following experience:
•    10 years experience in finance including senior roles either in accounting (previous chief of accountant), business/management controlling or audit (Big 4).
•    Solid experience in financial controls, project management, team leadership (including shared services).
•    Significant experience in a business facing Finance role and strong understanding of different areas of the business.
•    Significant experience managing a large and complex set of stakeholders (including peers and 3rd parties) and holding others accountable.
•    Significant experience in presenting to and communicating with senior Finance and non -Finance stakeholders.
•    Demonstrated competency at growing and developing people.
•    Ability to present complex information in a simplified manner.
•    Ability to hold people accountable.
•    French speaking skills required
