Job Title: Safety, Security, Health & Environmental (SSHE) Lead
Reports to: SSHE Senior Manager
Location: Crumlin Factory, Wales
JOB PURPOSE
The SSHE Lead ensures that all activities comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
This role drives SSHE performance, risk management, and sustainability initiatives throughout the project lifecycle whilst adhering to UK regulations and Unilever standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SSHE Program Development & Implementation
Develop and implement project specific SSHE plans aligned with corporate standards and legal requirements.
Establish safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
Risk Assessment & Hazard Management
Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and implement control measures.
Monitor high-risk activities and ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems.
Training & Awareness
Develop & assist in the delivery of the SSHE training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Promote a strong safety culture and environmental stewardship.
Assist and develop succession planning for future SSHE team members
Compliance & Auditing
Ensure compliance with local, national, and international SHE regulations.
Conduct regular inspections, audits, and report findings with corrective actions.
Incident Management
Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
Develop root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
Environmental Management
Oversee waste management, pollution control, and sustainability initiatives.
Ensure compliance with environmental permits and reporting requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with regulatory authorities, contractors, and internal teams on SHE matters.
Participate in project meetings to integrate SHE considerations into planning.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of SSHE activities, training, inspections, and incidents.
Assisting in the preparation monthly SHE performance reports and KPIs.
Project Management
Assist in the development and planning of SSHE projects relating to, Security, Safety, Health and Environmental.
Work with the SSHE manager and stack holder to determine the scope of the individual projects.
Work with specialist service providers to ensure the projects meet the required legal standard and guidelines
Ensure service providers and suppliers have and meet the required accreditation to be able to deliver the expecting SLA and KPI’s.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities for SSHE processes improvements and implement best practices.
Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends.
ALL ABOUT YOU
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
Certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP, or equivalent.
Experience: 3–5 years in SHE roles, preferably in project or construction environments.
Project management experience. Desirable but not essential.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of SSHE regulations and standards (OSHA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Full understanding of Microsoft Office is essential and Micro project is desirable but not essential.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Recruitment Fraud
Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.
How is Unilever tackling this?
Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
