The technician is a Preventative Maintenance and Focused Improvement specialist engaged to optimize the running and maintenance of equipment within the factory.
Where breakdowns occur, the multi-skilled technician will act to diagnose and troubleshoot faults and where necessary will recommend design improvements.
She/he is also intimately involved with setting the Maintenance Strategy for the respective production area.
The Technician is professionally competent and qualified to operate safely at a post apprentice level in at least two of the principal engineering disciplines; electrical & Instrumentation and Control.
She/he must be a mentally agile and advanced problem solver actively engaged in maintaining a safe work environment, which protects product quality and reduces waste and other environmental impact.
A positive contributor to the factory’s work environment and culture, the technician will act as a leading coach and mentor to the Technical Operator around the areas of engineering and Unilever Manufacturing System techniques.
What will your main responsibilities be
Explain the respective types of maintenance (condition-based maintenance, time-based maintenance, and breakdown maintenance).
Demonstrate effective use of emergency work order (EWO) to perform breakdown root cause analysis to eliminate breakdowns. Good knowledge in mechanical systems and equipment.
Troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns, as well as performing repairs.
Developing and implementing mechanical maintenance plans to prevent costly equipment breakdowns.
Installing and performing diagnostic tests on mechanical systems. Demonstrate proficiency in the application of relevant CBM techniques (eg vibration analysis, oil analysis, infra-red, thermography) Machine installation including levelling and alignment Faultfinding and problem solving on all manufacturing machinery.
Able to identify deviations and non-conforming items on equipment Able to assess exactly what steps to take to rectify these deviations and non-conformances
Make recommendations for continuous improvements Raise/close both Safety and Engineering
Tags Participate in the continuous revision and updating of standards * Raise One Point Lessons and cascade these to others Raise Kaizens that will improve efficiency
Able to carry out the work required to an exceptional standard as well as identify any further potential problems that might be visible.
Ability to plan and execute the work that need to be done to the machinery i.e. print out machine performance report, order or gather the required spare Work on the lathe to turn and manufacture key items for modification purposes. Develop technical skills of other engineering staff Coordinates activities of contractors on site Completes all required documentation to standard Maintains and updates documentation of check sheets, maintenance tasks and job codes.
Ensures that Company safety rules and regulations are adhered to within the sphere of responsibility.
Implementation and assists with maintaining Unilever safety and 5S standards in area of responsibility.
What you need to succeed
Experiences & Qualifications
- Minimum technical education requirement: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and/or Mechatronics with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s graduation in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics is an advantage.
- 3 to 5 years technical hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance and operations, preferably in similar industries like Unilever.
- Excellent understanding of mechanical systems, operations, and maintenance.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and technical diagrams.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns.
- Experience in designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment used in industrial and manufacturing settings.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for maintenance scheduling and tracking.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
