Job Title: R&D Associate - GDC, Hygiene & Surfaces

Function: Research/Development

Reports to: Senior Product Development Manager, Homecare

Travel: Yes, 10% of the Time 

Background and Scope

Unilever is market leader in Cleaning and Hygiene Products has been growing well over several years. Homecare Innovation team is responsible for global design for Cif, Domestos and Living Hygiene brands, one of the fastest growing categories in Unilever and is at the heart of USLP. The team’s responsibilities span new product development, improving value equation of current products and managing specifications for product manufacture/quality. The team is also responsible for driving programs to meet Unilever’s ambitious Bright Future Agenda.

The current job description is for a Research Executive Position reporting into a Senior Product Development Manager, Homecare Innovation, Bangalore. The candidate will work in Surface cleaner’s team within Homecare Innovation team based out of Bangalore. The responsibility of the position is to develop formulations that deliver holistic superior performance.   The key challenges to be addressed will be with respect to meeting the performance criteria within the cost brief, establish formulation robustness at lab &/or pilot scale while working with cross functional teams.

Roles and responsibilities:

• Candidate is expected to work in the laboratory & pilot plant to carry out “on the bench” experiments & demonstrate technical performance of product prototypes.

• He/She will work with team to develop new products or to enhance performance of existing products related to Hard surface cleaning formulations in Cif across different formats.

• He/She will lead specific aspects of the project & interact with cross functional team members (SEAC, Regulatory, Patents, Processing, Regional R&D, Brand, S&T teams).

• He/She will work with team to build capability in the identified areas. 

• Candidate is expected to use appropriate literature / patent / competition / supplier searches related to the projects.

• He/She will leverage digital tools to minimize experiments, maximize output & speed up program delivery 

Skills and experience

We are looking for a person with right attitude and competencies. Candidates with two to three years of experience in product development is preferred.

• Education: Graduate degree in Chemical Engineering / Chemistry/ Material Science with First class

• Background/Experience: Strong fundamentals in chemical engineering &/or Chemistry, proficient with digital tools and data analysis

• Technical skills:  Good understanding on surfactant and interfacial science, formulation design & development

• Soft skills: Teamwork, multi-tasking, good communication, presentation and writing skills, Creative, Should have ability to analyze data and present data to internal team and stakeholders   

• Digital: Should be proficient in word, excel, power point and should have apt to learn new Unilever digital tools (PLM, PHAROS, ELN, LIMS)
