Background & Purpose of the Job

The R&D Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) Manager is a leadership role that works collaboratively across functions to support all aspects of product development to ensure product safety and authenticity to meet the rigorous brand standards within North American Homecare. This role oversees the CTI team and ensures robustly supported claims, a comprehensive and accurate product data management system, and a robust consumer testing strategy. In addition, this individual is responsible for generating technical insights inputting to the development process for products and working closely with brand and sales to develop technical communication to tell the R&D story. This role will also play a significant role coaching/training/mentoring the future leaders in R&D.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do 

  • Lead the CTI team in the design and execution of consumer tests, consumer trends, product qualification, new claims development & support strategies, product demos for knowledge-based testing, competitive evaluations, product compliance, and our broad certification portfolio.

  • Act as the point person working with legal & regulatory to develop new claims, identify and communicate claims risks and lead any competitive challenges.

  • Manage a large team. Help to identify and pursue development opportunities with each team member.

  • Member of SVG R&D Leadership team

  • Lead continuous strategy and process improvement within CTI team and broader R&D

  • Partner with SEAC to ensure the safety of all North American Homecare products.

  • Ensure all 3P testing Labs are qualified and partnerships in place to ensure continued compliance with UL testing Procedures and Codes of Conduct.

  • Create networks and project plans in concert with marketing and supply chain functions as needed.

  • Lead project budget management for all R&D and ensure monthly budgets are communicated to squad teams/R&D and that all year end budget requirements are met in full.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Scientific discipline eg. toxicology, microbiology, Biological Science, Physical Science, Engineering

  • Related experience (7+ years) in R&D in consumer product goods industry (ideally across different R&D functions). Previous experience in consumer test design is a benefit.

  • Strong communication skills; proven record of working well in cross functional teams.

  • Experience in managing logistically complex projects and large volumes of data.

  • Able to coordinate the needs of multiple functional areas simultaneously.

  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.

  • Proven Track record of managing direct reports and influencing up within the organization.

  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

  • Willingness to continually embrace personal and professional development.

Pay: The pay range for this position is $96,000 to $143,900. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
